It seems like yesterday we were running around shouting ‘Hawk Tuah’ at each other, but the internet comes at you fast.

Things seem to speed up though, particularly if you’re getting accused of a ‘pump and dump’ crypto coin scheme.

The meaning is in the name, it’s when a coin is ‘pumped up’ in value by a celebrity or something else driving it, and then sold so that the creators can make profit.

‘$HAWK token’ lost its buyers millions, and as the face of it, ‘Hawk Tuah Girl’ Haliey Welch was cancelled on social media.

The cryptocurrency scandal threatened to end her career as quickly as her viral street video started it.

News of her alleged transgressions with the coin did the rounds online, but it looks like Welch is back, in a leaked podcast episode with content creator FaZe Banks.

The cryptocurrency, which reportedly reached a jaw-dropping value of $490 million (£393 million) at the end of 2024, CoinTelegraph reported that it dropped by more than 90 percent.

Lawsuits have been filed against those behind the coin, while the conversation around the unlawful promotion of selling cryptocurrency also became a popular topic online.

She took to her podcast to reveal that it wasn’t just regular people that suffered, as her own ‘pookie’ (boyfriend, for those not down with the slang), was also hit.

Kelby Blackwell, Welch’s significant other, even teases her about it.

“Pookie lost money too,” she revealed. “He said, ‘How you going to take my money?’ He still gives me s*** all the time. He says, ‘I wish I had my $300 back’,” Welch added.

It may just be $300 (£242), but the fact he had to bring it up really sends the message across.

Speaking more about the crypto venture as a whole, Welch admitted it didn’t go to plan, and felt sorry for those who lost money.

Explaining that it was a ‘friend of a friend’ who came up with the idea, she said: “It was brought to me as a long-term coin that would change the way everybody thinks about crypto,

“And I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it. It just didn’t go the way I planned.”

Looking back, the internet star also said that she should have reacted more to red flags that she noticed about the person behind the project.

She admitted: “I probably should have looked into him a little bit more.

“He was acting a little bit weird on the day of the launch, and that made me suspicious.”

FaZe Banks has asked the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl to fire her entire team after they allegedly ‘leaked’ a new podcast episode about the controversial cryptocurrency scandal.

Haliey Welch needs little introduction after she became a viral sensation for, you know, that video.

Don’t pretend like you’ve not seen it.

Since the fame, the Tennessee resident has quit her job and started her own podcastTalk Tuah with Haliey Welch, which has over 200k subscribers.

In recent months, the Hawk Tuah girl has been criticised for her cryptocurrency dealings, by promoting a coin named ‘$HAWK token’, which became available on 4 December.

Its market cap went up to $490 million (£384 million), and then the coin quickly lost more than 95 percent of its value.

Welch was accused of doing a ‘pump and dump’, which is when people hype up a coin to drive up its value and then sell it quickly for profit. Everyone else lost millions.

Although lawsuits were launched against the coin’s creators, Welch wasn’t named as a defendant.

Now, a leaked episode of her podcast has recently been shared on social media, and it features the founder of popular e-sports organisation FaZe Clan, who is also an influencer.

But since it’s been leaked, Banks – whose real name is Richard Bengston – has complained that his two stipulations were not met beforehand.

Banks interviewed Welch in the leaked video (X)

1) Not allowing market manipulation

Over on his X account, Banks said his first stipulation was ‘not allowing markets to be manipulated by leaking this episode’s existence before a resolution was found’.

“The price of $HAWK is pumping and they completely f**king fumbled the bag, yet again,” he complained.

2) To find a solution

“Her team finding a REAL solution regarding the money she made, where that should go and what to do with the $HAWK project moving forward,” he penned.

“What a f**king mess. Poor girl, it’s a wonder how she found herself in this position in the first place,” Banks continued.

“Now @HalieyWelchX I’m going to speak to you direct and say the exact same thing I said to you on spaces that night. Fire everybody.”

Haliey Welch breaks her silence

In the clip, Welch said the idea had been pitched to her as a ‘long-term coin’ that would ‘change the way everybody thinks about crypto’.

“And I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it,” she said. “And it just didn’t go the way I planned.”

“I probably should have looked into him a little bit more,” Welch said of the ‘friend of a friend’ who got her involved.

Haliey Welch seems to have kept out of the limelight since the scandal

After what has seemed like weeks of silence, the woman known better as the ‘Hawk Tuah girl’ has spoken out.

Haliey Welch has pretty much flown off the radar after becoming embroiled in a bit of a controversial cryptocurrency scandal.

In case you’ve successfully wiped your brain of some of the more bizarre viral moments from last year, I’m talking about the woman who got pretty big on the internet for that ‘hawk tuah’ and ‘spit on that thang’ video.

That little street interview clip saw her go on to receive so much publicity she could quit her job and start up the podcast, Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch.

But towards the end of 2024, the capitalisation on her success saw her branching out into crypto, with the coin named ‘$HAWK token’.

At first, it rocketed to a value of $490 million (£393 million) but then plummeted quickly with CoinTelegraph reporting it flopped by more than 90 percent. So those who had invested in the heavily promoted token collectively lost millions.

Lawsuits were launched against the coin’s creators and accusations were made of unlawfully promoting and selling cryptocurrency.

Welch however only fronted the $HAWK token and had not been named as a defendant in the lawsuit. She did face backlash online though.

And now she is back with Talk Tuah, as an episode with FaZe Clan’s founder Banks has been ‘leaked’ on social media.

As the star got pretty teary over it all, he promised her: “It’s all gonna be OK.”

Welch explained that the idea had been brought to her as a ‘long-term coin’ that would ‘change the way everybody thinks about crypto’.

“And I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it,” Welch said. “And it just didn’t go the way I planned.”

In this leaked video, she said the ‘biggest mistake’ was trusting the guy who was a ‘friend of a friend’ in taking on this crypto deal.

“I probably should have looked into him a little bit more,” Welch added.

The viral star went on to say this guy was a ‘little bit weird’ on the day of the launch which made her ‘suspicious’.

Since this Talk Tuah episode has been ‘leaked’, Banks has hit out, slamming Welch’s team for ‘fumbling the bag yet again’.

He explained heavy stipulations for appearing on the podcast and said: “These were nonstarters and we were told this episode would only ever see the light of day if we explicitly green lit it.” Banks went on to tell Welch to ‘fire everybody’ as he added: “Poor girl, it’s a wonder how she found herself in this position in the first place.”

The woman known as the ‘Hawk Tuah girl’ hasn’t been heard of online in weeks since her cryptocurrency controversy.

Haliey Welch became a viral sensation for, you know, that video.

We’ve all seen it, so let’s just leave it at that.

Since then, the Tennessee resident has received so much publicity and followers that she’s been able to quit her job. Her podcastTalk Tuah with Haliey Welch, already has over 200k subscribers, and Welch has been selling her fair share of merch on the side.

However, the social media star hasn’t posted on her YouTube channel since 3 December, and her Instagram has been quiet since 20 December.

As keen as she’s been to capitalise on her new-found fame, the Hawk Tuah girl has been criticised for her cryptocurrency dealings. In recent months, the social media star was promoting a coin named ‘$HAWK token’, which became available on 4 December.

And its market cap remarkably soared to an eye-watering $490 million (£384 million), before it lost more than 95 percent of its value within hours. Welch was accused of doing a ‘pump and dump’, which is when people hype up a coin to drive up its value and then sell it quickly for profit.

On the behalf of 12 claimants, a federal lawsuit has since been filed by Burwick Law against the creators of the coin – overHere Ltd and its founder Clinton So.

Influencer Alex Larson Schultz and the Tuah The Moon Foundation have also been named in the lawsuit. It accuses them of unlawfully promoting and selling cryptocurrency, which was allegedly never properly registered.

Amid the backlash, Welch shared a statement on X on 4 December, which read: “Hawkanomics: Team hasn’t sold one token and not 1 KOL was given 1 free token.

“We tried to stop snipers as best we could through high fee’s in the start of launch on @MeteoraAG. Fee’s have now been dropped.”

A couple weeks later on 20 December, she said: “I take this situation extremely seriously and want to address my fans, the investors who have been affected, and the broader community.

“I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter.

Why Hawk Tuah girl’s $HAWK project is being sued as she breaks silence on truth behind cryptocurrency scandal

Here is the lowdown on what’s going on with Welch

Olivia Burke

One minute you’re going viral for ‘spitting on that thang’, the next you’re at the centre of a cryptocurrency scandal.

Well, if you’re Haliey Welch, that is.

The 22-year-old, better known as ‘Hawk Tuah Girl‘, seemed to have fallen off the face of the earth after news of alleged transgressions with the ‘$HAWK token’ broke.

She has since resurfaced to discuss her side of the complicated story, but a lot of people are still left baffled about what’s gone down.

Welch earned the nickname ‘Hawk Tuah Girl’ after that video of her went viral shortly after it was uploaded in July last year.

It’s been a crazy few months since then – seeing the social media star launch a merch linequit her day job and even sing on stage with country music stars.

Following the online success of her street interview, she also launched her podcast Talk Tuah with Haliey Welch.

Welch then went on to branch out into crypto, fronting a coin dubbed the ‘$HAWK token’.

It became available on 4 December – and although it’s value initially shot up, it soon came crashing back down.

What happened with the $HAWK token?

Despite soaring to value of $490 million (£384 million), it’s worth nosedived dramatically just hours later – flopping by more than 90 percent, according to CoinTelegraph.

Welch was accused of endorsing a ‘pump and dump’ scheme by frustrated fans, which refers to people hyping up a coin to increase its value, only to then sell it quickly for profit.

Those who invested in the $HAWK token collectively lost millions, seeing buyers launch legal proceedings against the coin’s creators in the US.

A federal lawsuit was been filed by Burwick Law on the behalf of 12 claimants against the firm overHere Ltd and it’s founder Clinton So.

Social media influencer Alex Larson Schultz and the Tuah The Moon Foundation were also named in the lawsuit.

It accuses them of unlawfully promoting and selling cryptocurrency, which was was allegedly never properly registered.

What has Haliey Welch said since?

After appearing to go underground for several weeks, Welch has now addressed the scandal.

Well, sort of – as according to FaZe Clan’s founder Banks, he didn’t agree to the footage of his appearance on Talk Tuah being released.

But that’s a whole different issue. Anyway, Welch claimed that the $HAWK token had been presented to her as a ‘long-term coin’, which would ‘change the way everybody thinks about crypto’.

She said: “I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it. And it just didn’t go the way I planned.”

Welch went onto say she was kicking herself for trusting a person who was a ‘friend of a friend’ to get involved with the coin, describing it as her ‘biggest mistake’.

“I probably should have looked into him a little bit more,” she added, before alleging that she was left ‘suspicious’ on $HAWK token’s launch day as the guy was a ‘little bit weird’, the viral star went on to say

Is Welch being sued?

Although it plays on her phrase which went viral, Welch only fronted the $HAWK token.

The podcaster was not named as a defendant in the lawsuit, but still faced a host of online backlash for it.

However, the legal complaint did allege that those accused used Welch’s large social media following to help market the coin.

It claims that the defendants did this to ’emphasise community engagement, inclusivity, and bridge mainstream culture with the cryptocurrency world’.

According to The Sun, the complaint also states: “The rapid decline in the Token’s value caused substantial damages to investors who relied on Welch’s participation and the project’s stated roadmap.”

LADbible Group has previously contacted Welch’s reps for comment.
