Donald Trump has made an immediate request to China that would change the entire world.
Trump shocked the world on 21 June after claiming to have caused major damage to three major nuclear sites in Iran.
A 125-strong fleet of B-2 stealth bombers dropped explosives after increased concern that Iran had been building nuclear weapons.
The president then gloated about the success of Operation Midnight Hammer, saying their target was ‘obliterated’ and that ‘extremely severe damage’ was caused. Iran has denied this claim.
The West Asian country now has its own card to play, however, – control of the strait of hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes starting on the Persian Gulf to the open ocean.
Closure of this could have a catastrophic impact on the rest of the world, as it is currently a key route for energy supplies to reach the rest of the globe.
50% of the world’s oil and natural gas supplies come from this strait. Countries are now preparing for a possible spike in oil prices and a major drop in the economy.
Now, the US are hoping China will put pressure on Iran to keep the strait of hormuz running.
Media reports from Iran suggest that they may be considering closing the strait – however the Supreme National Security Council have to give the final OK.
Speaking on Fox News on 22 June, 54-year-old US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio said: “I encourage the Chinese government in Beijing to call them [Iran] about that, because they heavily depend on the Straits of Hormuz for their oil.
“If they [close the Straits]… it will be economic suicide for them. And we retain options to deal with that, but other countries should be looking at that as well.
“It would hurt other countries’ economies a lot worse than ours.” he added.
