UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione faces federal charges after waiving extradition

• Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, made his first appearance in federal court Thursday. He faces four federal counts in connection with Thompson’s death, according to a criminal complaint.

• Mangione formally waived extradition this morning and was flown from Pennsylvania to New York. He arrived in Lower Manhattan surrounded by dozens of heavily armed law enforcement officers and the city’s mayor.

• The federal complaint provided new details on a notebook authorities said was in Mangione’s possession and “contained several handwritten pages that express hostility toward the health insurance industry and wealthy executives in particular.”
